Japanese Giboshi Bridge Ornamentation, Pair, 27" #1716

Each giboshi is carved from one piece of wood. This style bridge ornamentation is often found in Japanese gardens or temples. As well as being ornamental in the shape of a bulbous flower or onion, it is also a corner anchor for rails. They are well weathered, each post has splits and pitting/loss of wood to the tip/tops of the bulbs. Each post is slightly different in dimension from the other. Each post has 2 sockets to hold rails and a third socket that is not cut through. Age unknown, but estimating they are mid century or earlier. Unpacked the pair weigh 34 pounds.
